The Science Behind Pomodoro

The Pomodoro Technique was developed in the late 1980s by Francesco Cirillo. It uses a timer to break work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.

How to use this timer?

  1. Choose a single task you want to focus on (No multitasking!).
  2. Start the Pomodoro (25-minute) timer.
  3. Work intensely until the timer rings.
  4. Take a Short Break (5 minutes) to relax.
  5. Repeat the cycle 4 times, then take a Long Break (15 minutes).

Common Timer Questions

Why 25 minutes?

Studies suggest that 25 minutes is the "Goldilocks zone" for intense focus—long enough to get work done, but short enough that your brain doesn't wander.

Can I change the durations?

Currently, we follow the standard scientifically proven 25/5/15 model. We are working on a custom duration feature for the next update.

Does the timer run if I switch tabs?

Yes, our engine is optimized to run in the background, though keeping the tab open in view is recommended for visual accountability.

What should I do during the break?

Ideally, move away from screens. Drink water, stretch, or do a quick 5-minute meditation to reset your cognitive load.

Is there a sound notification?

Yes, a gentle chime sounds when the timer ends to notify you even if you are not looking at the screen.

Is this tool free for mobile?

Yes, iLikeTOOL is fully responsive. You can use it on any mobile browser without downloading heavy apps.
